Never Nothing New

This past weekend I expereinced three things that I had never before. 1. An Alcholics Anonoymous sobriety birthday celebration. A friend in our church was celebrating one year. 2. The commissioning of a young man from our church into the National Guard as an officer. 3. The wedding ceremony of a couple in our church as part of our Sunday worship service. All three events involved commitments of the heart that also require great sacrifice. If you think about it, they all require dying to self. Jesus said that must happen in order for life to be experienced. Sobriety, patriotism, and marriage are all means to show us that real life is found only in the identification with Christ in his death and his resurrection.
