Interrupted!
Posted by chuck maxwell on March 1st, 2009 filed in Chuck's blogSix -seven inches of snow fell last night. On top of some frozen rain. I’m not a snow fan. Not a cold weather fan. And I’m even more not a fan when it affects my routine. Is it just me or does it seem that every time we get a big snow and ice deal, it comes on Saturday night? And you know what that means, my routine is thrown off. Rather than getting up early and spending some time thinking about our worship service and what we get to hear from the Word, I have to make a call about even having a service. I really don’t like calling off church. If it weren’t for the potentially dangerous parking lot, we would have our service like we do each Sunday, for those who would venture out on the roads. I drive cars with front wheel drive so its all good as far as I’m concerned. Why change my routine for the timid drivers?!
But as I sit here looking out my french doors at the woods in my back yard, when I am suppposed to be meeting with the worship team, straightening the chairs, making sure the media is right, checking the mics, etc., I notice how white the snow is, how blue the sky is, and how bright the sun is. It doesn’t get much whiter and bluer and brighter than it is this morning. I would have missed it had I stayed in my routine.
Thank you Lord for the interruption. I miss worshipping with my community, but I see You brightly shining on my world and in my life, and I am reminded, it’s all about You, not me.

It sure is beautiful today.
I was pondering how \\"even\\" the snow makes everything seem. Everything is covered and it all looks so clean and bright. As I look over the pictures everyone is posting at the Sun, on FB, I marvel and think \\"wow, it looks just like my neighborhood\\".
I can\\\’t tell the difference, everything looks the same, and it reminded me that when God sees His children, He doesn\\\’t see how big our homes, how much stuff we have in them, what cars we drive, He peers into our hearts.
Oh how thankful I am that Jesus blankets us in His Holiness and makes us all clean, white as snow.

what, this interface can’t deal with quotation marks? Ugh.
Above I had written: I was pondering how EVEN the snow makes everything seem.

Okay, so it took a couple of weeks for me to leave a comment, but…Snow Day Sunday was extremely weird for the Welch household. I mean, we have skipped Sundays, but this time Sunday skipped us. Strange how, in just 6 years, gathering at Northbrook is just natural. Watching television and being lazy was unnatural, because I felt I was supposed to be at church. I missed it! But, then again, I did stop and pause and drink in God’s creation. Funny how worship can sneak up on you.

Thanks Sue and Karen for joining me in worship in a different way a few weeks ago. But I still would rather gather with you and worship the splendor of His holiness together!
